Editor’s Note: This article has been updated to clarify the number of Social Security Administration offices in the Las Vegas valley, to add a statement from a Social Security Administation spokesperson and to remove a photograph that included private information.

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — One of the Social Security Administration offices (SSA) in Las Vegas will be closed to save the government money, according to Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE website.

There are currently three Social Security Administration offices in the Las Vegas valley. The list doesn’t identify which office will be closed, moved, or when it’s expected to happen.

The Las Vegas valley office is one of many federal agencies expected to either permanently close their offices, combine them, or move to a more cost-effective space. The website states the Las Vegas office will move to space in a federal building to reduce lease expenses. There are SSA offices in Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, and Henderson.

The annual lease for the Las Vegas office costs $65,406. DOGE reports the closure will result in $16,406 in total savings, according to the website.

On Wednesday, an SSA spokesperson provided 8 News Now with a statement saying the following:

“We are working with [the US General Services Administration (GSA)] to review our leases and ensure they are used efficiently. Most of the leases we are not renewing are for small remote hearing sites that are co-located with other Federal space. As the majority of our hearings are held virtually, we no longer need as many in-person hearings locations. In fact, in FY24, twenty percent of these offices held no in-person hearings. Other offices are non-public facing, being consolidated into nearby locations, or we had planned to close. Social Security continuously monitors and evaluates the use of our office space to maximize efficiency for the American taxpayer.”
