RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - President Trump’s budget legislation known as the “Big Beautiful Bill” passed the Senate Tuesday morning.

Both Senator Catherine Cortez Masto and Jacky Rosen voted ‘no’ on the bill saying that it will drastically impact Nevadans.

Their main concern is for the health care budget cuts, like that of Medicaid.

Senator Cortez Masto says the bill would kick over 114,000 Nevadans off of health insurance.

“About 70,000 Nevadans will be kicked off of Medicaid and about 40,000 will lose their coverage under the Affordable Care Act,” says Senator Cortez Masto.

She says that a big concern is the impact this will have on the elderly, and children in the silver state.

“Thanks to this bill, over a million seniors now could see their health care prices increase and it could terminate health care coverage for 1.5 million children,” says Sen. Cortez Masto.

She also says that health care providers will have to cut back on services. We spoke with Northern Nevada HOPES CEO about what that would mean for their program, which helps thousands here in our home.

“We’re very alarmed about the proposed cuts that came from the senate,” says Northern Nevada HOPES CEO Sharon Chamberlain.

She breaks down some of the numbers:

“We serve over 32 million patients. This is going to, suggested by studies, close about 40% of health center sites across the nation. We serve about 22,000 patients annually, and of those individuals, about 40% are Medicaid patients. 40% are going to lose coverage. That means that we will have to cut services and potentially close sites.”

We reached out to Congressman Mark Amodei. His team has said he will release a statement after the vote in the House.
